Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi’s cousin, 42-year-old Asif Qureshi, was allegedly killed following a heated argument over a parking space in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on Thursday night. Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
Dispute over scooter parking turns deadly
According to police, the quarrel started around 10 pm when Asif asked a man not to park his two-wheeler right in front of the main gate of his house. The matter quickly deteriorated and Asif was attacked with a sharp, poker-like weapon. He suffered serious chest injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police arrest accused
The arrested persons have been identified as Ujjwal, 19, and Gautam, 18, both residents of the same area and located just a few metres away from Asif’s house. Officials have confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code and further investigation is underway.
Family narrates tragic incident
Asif, who runs a chicken business in Delhi, has two wives. One of them, Shaheen, said that around 9:30 pm to 10 pm, a neighbour parked a scooter outside their house. When Asif politely requested him to remove it, the man allegedly hurled abuses and threats. A few minutes later, the neighbour returned with his brother and the two allegedly stabbed Asif with a knife. By the time his brother Javed arrived, Asif had lost a lot of blood and could not be saved.
Uncle says quarrel led to murder
Asif’s uncle and Huma Qureshi’s father Salim Qureshi said that when his nephew requested not to close the entrance, an argument started which soon turned violent. He alleged that the two together attacked Asif, leading to his death.
Investigation underway
Asif’s body has been sent for post-mortem and Delhi Police is continuing its investigation. Actress Huma Qureshi has not yet issued any statement about the incident.
